About Garden City Movers — Missoula, MT

Founded in Missoula in 2012 by Levi Hartman, a Rattlesnake-raised University of Montana grad. Our own trucks, W-2 Garden City crew, climate-controlled storage we run, and a price written on paper.

How a Rattlesnake kid and U of Montana grad started Garden City Movers

Garden City Movers works out of a yard on Brooks Street, holds a Montana PSC permit and full coverage, and the whole thing came out of one stubborn idea: a move should land on paper and stay there. It starts with Levi Hartman, who grew up off the Rattlesnake creek, hiked the white ‘M’ on Mount Sentinel more times than he can count, and finished at the University of Montana before putting his first truck on the road in 2012. He had hauled enough friends’ couches up University District staircases and down icy Grant Creek driveways to see how most outfits ran a move, and he figured Missoula deserved a crew that quoted one flat written rate and answered for it. The name is the city’s own: Missoula has gone by the Garden City for generations, and so does the company that grew up here.

More than a decade on, this is still Levi’s shop. The trucks are titled to us, the climate-controlled storage is ours to run, and the price lives on paper where we can be held to it. The customer is the same one we started with: a Target Range family with a garden and a full garage, a retiree paring down a Slant Streets bungalow, a U of Montana student loading out in May, every one of them wanting a single honest flat figure from movers who show up and finish.

Our own Missoula crew, no middleman, no subcontractor

Here is the part that matters most, said plainly: a Garden City paycheck goes to every mover who lifts your couch and every hand that wheels your washer down the back steps. We are not a broker, we run no lead-matching app, and your number never gets floated to a few competing bidders. When you hire us, the people at your door are on our payroll, in our shirts, behind the wheel of a truck that says Garden City. Not one piece of the work slides to a subcontractor, nobody gets pulled off a lot at dawn, and nothing ever gets posted for an outside company to claim. From the first pad on a Rattlesnake dresser to the last box at the new place, a single Garden City crew carries it and answers for the result, start to finish.

Who leads the crew, from U of Montana student moves to Bitterroot runs

Levi still rides lead on the trickiest local work himself: hillside loads in the Rattlesnake and Grant Creek, anything coming down a steep snowy apron, and the heavy pieces like safes, treadmills, and uprights. The long-distance side falls to our road lead, so a household headed to Spokane, Bozeman, or the Flathead keeps one crew for the full trip. Apartment, student, and senior-downsizing jobs around downtown, the University District, and the Slant Streets get a lead who lives in tight landings, narrow stairwells, and end-of-semester chaos near campus. Back at the yard, dispatch locks down every insurance certificate, the dock or elevator slot, and a legal place to park before any engine turns over.

Licensed in Montana, insured, and on the hook in writing

You will find our authority listed as a Montana PSC permit and our federal numbers as and, all of it backed by cargo coverage worth a million dollars. Those numbers are not framed for show. They tie the Garden City name to your belongings in writing. Each truck reports its position by GPS, anything leaving Montana carries a binding written quote, and a job around the valley either bills hourly from $125 for a two-mover team or, after we have walked through it, settles into one written flat figure. The choice is yours. If a claim should ever come up, a Montana-licensed carrier sees it through within nine months, and you will never reach a recording.

Missoula and western Montana are our home ground

Because we have worked here since 2012, the valley reads to us like the block where you grew up. Knowing which downtown buildings want insurance paperwork filed before the gate even opens, where Reserve and Brooks clot around five, the curb on a Slant Streets block that holds a 26-foot rig without crowding the neighbors, and how to time US-93 over Evaro Hill or I-90 toward Bozeman so a Flathead or Billings run does not unravel in a snow squall, all of that is second nature here. Then there is the weather, which drives much of the rest: valley inversions and ice on the grades through winter, a long shoulder season, and hot, dry, smoky late summers when wildfire season settles into the valley. Our ground is Missoula proper, the whole of Missoula County, the Bitterroot and Blackfoot valleys, and the runs north toward Flathead Lake, and we send households down the road from here week after week.
