When boxing the entire house is the part you dread, let our packers carry it. How a thing is packed depends on what it is. Stemware and dinner plates ride in dish cartons with cell dividers; books go into smaller boxes so no spine bends under its own stack; and the odd-shaped pieces, a wall mirror, the flat-screen, a monitor or two, a lamp, the framed photographs, the painting over the fireplace, each get a sleeve cut to size. Electronics ride on shock padding, and we mark every carton with its room so unloading is not a scavenger hunt. Since the same paid Garden City crew packs you and then drives you, nothing falls into the seam that appears when one company wraps the house and a different one carts it off. The exception is instruments: late-summer wildfire smoke and bone-dry air punish a piano, so ours is skidded and crated, not boxed up like books.

There is no rule that you hand over the whole house. Some clients want every room packed end to end; plenty of others have us take the home office, the cabinets, and the artwork while they handle their own wardrobes. Either way works, and your price follows the portion you assign. On a larger home we usually pack a day or two before the move, and the fragile and powered items wait in place, padded and taped, never carried out into a snowy curb on a weather day.
What a pack will not cover
Two limits keep things straight. Anything hazardous is barred from both packing and hauling, so set aside gasoline, propane, paint, solvents, and ammunition for yourself to handle. We do not crate spoilable food or potted plants for a highway haul. And though we are glad to box a delicate heirloom or an irreplaceable painting, we will tell you honestly when a piece is safer in your own car than taped into a carton and wished well.
What a pack costs
The price of a pack comes down to the portion you assign and the materials it uses, layered on top of the move. For reference, a full relocation runs roughly $980–$1,650 for a two-bedroom, $1,650–$2,750 for a three-bedroom, and $2,650–$4,200 for a four-bedroom, with packing counted on top of that.
